The Prince Siddhartha

” The Prince Siddhartha” is my version of one of the murals of the famous Ajanta Caves located in central India. The artwork is done on plywood with oils and acrylics  with bright earthy tones giving it the Ethnic Indian feel. It has a lot of texture and a lot of artificial gem stones and jewelery and paper mache has been used. The Prince is holding a small lotus.

The Ajanta Caves were carved in the 2nd century BC out of a horseshoe-shaped cliff along the Waghora River. They were used by Buddhist monks as prayer halls (chaitya grihas) and monasteries (viharas) for about nine centuries, then abruptly abandoned. They fell into oblivion until they were rediscovered in 1819.

Mixed Media – Oils on ply, clay, artificial jewelery

This is one of my first works that I did under the guidance of my first artist guru. It is also one of my favorites. Though I have put this under Commission’s category, this painting is actually with me. Somehow I never wanted to sell it. But if you like it I would love to  make one for you.
