Description
“The Dark Princess” is my version of one of the many Murals of the famous Ajanta Caves located in central India.
This artwork is done on plywood with oils and acrylics. It has a lot of texture and a lot of artificial gem stones and jewelery, has been used. Also eggshells has been used both on the background and the foreground.
The Ajanta Caves were carved in the 2nd century BC out of a horseshoe-shaped cliff along the Waghora River. They were used by Buddhist monks as prayer halls (chaitya grihas) and monasteries (viharas) for about nine centuries, then abruptly abandoned. They fell into oblivion until they were rediscovered in 1819.
