A Renaissance-Inspired Beginning

A Renaissance-Inspired Beginning

I’ve just begun my journey with the PP28 series by Zentangle Inc., and this first tile already feels like a quiet conversation between guidance and freedom. I truly enjoyed working through the guided project—it offered just the right balance of structure and openness.

What I love about this way of creating is the spaciousness it allows. The initial guidance gives me a strong foundation to begin, and from there, I feel free to elaborate, explore, and add layers of detail in my own time and style. It feels as though I started with a few intentional lines and then gently stepped off the path, trusting my instincts to lead the way.

This series draws inspiration from Renaissance art, particularly the works of Leonardo da Vinci, and that influence subtly shaped my approach. There’s a sense of observation, softness, and thoughtful detailing that feels very true to that period—measured, yet expressive.

For this tile, I worked on the pre-strung tile from the PP28 kit and added finer details using a brown pen, especially within the petals of the Phicop tangle. I also enjoyed alternating between black and brown ink, allowing the petals to shift in tone and depth. This gentle contrast added warmth and an old-world quality that felt fitting for the Renaissance inspiration.

As I stepped back and looked at the finished tile, I felt a quiet satisfaction. The process was unhurried, immersive, and deeply enjoyable. I’m happy with how this project unfolded—and excited to continue exploring where this series leads next.
