Between the Noise and the Quiet: Notes from Home & Studio

A Renaissance tile with a growing, flowy organic tangle—layers of earthy tones, soft shading, and gentle curves coming together in a quiet, unfolding rhythm. Sharing multiple orientations, as I was unable to decide which looks better. Orientation 1

Here is orientation 3

It’s a full house these days, with both teenagers home for the summer. The days are loud, chaotic, and constantly shifting between laughter and arguments. One moment they’re teasing each other over lunch, the next they’re in full-blown debate over something neither will remember in an hour. 🤷♀️In the middle of it all are movie marathons, cookouts, long negotiations over what to make for breakfast that everyone agrees on, and impromptu ice cream orders that somehow bring temporary peace. 😃

Honestly, it’s not even funny how quickly the mood, tone, and temperature of the house can change. 😃But I’m soaking it all in—the mess, the magic, the moods, all of it. 🫶Because underneath the noise is something tender: one is off to college in a couple of months, and the other will graduate high school next year. Everything suddenly feels like it’s on fast-forward.🥹

This week, I made my way back into the studio. It felt good to be in that quiet space again, catching up on things and finishing some half-done projects. I worked on a tile that’s been sitting in my mind for a while—exploring grafting tangles and how they grow and stretch into new forms. There’s something beautiful about the way patterns evolve when you let them.

Hoping to explore more organic fragments soon. But for now, it’s back to balancing studio time with snack breaks, sibling squabbles, and soaking in these fast days of summer. ❤️
Let me know which is your prefered orientation of the tile.

Wow! This is stunning! I hope you teach this or something like it. I love how all the different tangles blend into each other so seamlessly. Truly beautiful.
