There is something quietly magical about bringing Zentangle and watercolor together. One offers structure through deliberate, mindful strokes; the other flows with a freedom that cannot be entirely controlled. It is this gentle balance between intention and surprise that keeps drawing me back to this combination.

Over the years, I have explored countless projects and workshops where these two mediums meet. Every time I begin, there is a familiar sense of anticipation—a small, delightful question lingering in the background: How will this one unfold? Even after years of creating, I still don't know the answer until the final strokes are in place. And perhaps that is where the joy lies.

For this tile, I chose a palette of soft, muted watercolors. Rather than reaching for vibrant hues, I wanted the colors to whisper, allowing the tangles to emerge gently from the background. At the same time, I experimented with a new approach, stepping away from what felt familiar and embracing the uncertainty that accompanies every creative risk.

Did it turn out exactly as I imagined? I'm not entirely sure. But I don't believe every piece has to be a perfect success to be worthwhile. Sometimes a piece serves a different purpose—it opens a door to new possibilities, sparks fresh questions, and invites us to explore further.

Those self-imposed creative challenges are some of my favorite companions in the studio. They remind me that art is not about always knowing the destination. It is about remaining curious, trusting the process, and finding beauty in the unexpected discoveries made along the way.
