A Serene Pause with Shizuku

A Serene Pause with Shizuku

This tile was such a gentle reminder that art doesn’t have to be rushed. As part of the To You Tangle 2025 series, I decided to explore the beautiful and totally new-to-me tangle, Shizuku. Its organic, droplet-like form felt meditative and grounding, almost like a breath on paper.

Interestingly, I veered away from my usual go-to—watercolors—and chose colour pencils for this tile. The softness of pencil strokes gave me more time to slow down, blend, and truly sit with the piece. There's something intimate about pencil work, like each layer holds a whisper.

This tile also holds a bit of real life in it. I worked on it in quiet pockets of time in between helping my daughter with her final packing. Every mark felt like a moment of calm carved out from the flurry of activity around me. The process was incredibly serene—a word that perfectly captures how I felt by the end.

It’s amazing how Zentangle meets us exactly where we are. Whether in the middle of daily chaos or a quiet evening, the process always brings us home to ourselves.

Tangles: Shizuku, Diva dance, Tipple.
