Coffering & Heart Loops

Coffering & Heart Loops

Happy Valentine’s Day 💛

This season always feels like a gentle reminder to pause and notice the love that quietly surrounds us — in our homes, our friendships, our families, and even in our creative practice. Love doesn’t always arrive in grand gestures. Sometimes, it lives in the smallest moments — like drawing one mindful line at a time.

For this PP28 tile, I began with coffering — gently dividing the surface into structured sections, almost like carving little architectural panels onto the tan paper. Coffering always brings a sense of order and rhythm, a quiet framework that holds everything together. Within those spaces, creativity begins to play.

As I filled each section with fragments and detailing tangles, tiny heart loops naturally appeared. They weren’t planned; they simply unfolded between layers and shading. Not loud declarations, but soft whispers of warmth nestled into the geometry. It felt like the most honest way to celebrate the day — through presence, detail, and intention.

Working with my favorite limited palette — black, brown, and white on tan — adds a timeless depth. The brown softens, the black defines, and the white gently lifts the patterns, creating a subtle renaissance glow where light and shadow coexist beautifully.

Zentangle reminds me that love is patience. Love is acceptance. Love is allowing each line to be what it is, without judgment.

Today, gift yourself a small creative pause. Draw slowly. Breathe deeply. Let each line be a quiet love letter — to yourself.
