Midweek often calls for something gentle — a pause, a return, a quiet conversation with the familiar. This week, I found myself reaching for a tan tile and revisiting three well-loved tangles: Enchanterelle, Finery, and Gourdgeous.
There is a quiet elegance in working on tan. The warmth of the surface holds both light and shadow beautifully, allowing the white highlights and graphite shading to breathe. It invites softness while still holding space for drama. Enchanterelle flowed in gently, its organic curves creating a quiet movement across the tile. Finery followed with its delicate, lace-like structure, adding refinement and a sense of intricate balance. And then came Gourdgeous — bold, dimensional, and playful — bringing contrast and a touch of whimsy to the composition. The tangle Drawings make the tile mystic.
What I love about revisiting older tangles is discovering how they evolve with us. The strokes feel surer. The shading feels more intuitive. There is less striving and more listening.
Midweek musings like these remind me that creativity doesn’t always need something new. Sometimes, it simply asks us to return — to re-see, to re-experience, and to rediscover beauty in lines we thought we already knew.
