Four Years of SERENE

Four Years of SERENE

*Four Years of SERENE — A Journey of Lines, Light, and Community*

In 2021, I began something called Serene. It was a quiet offering—three lessons a month, a Zoom gathering, and a space held together by a shared love for slow, intentional creativity. What I didn’t expect was how deeply it would touch the lives of those who joined. Or how much it would transform me, too.

Over the past *four years, *Serene grew into more than just an art membership. It became a rhythm, a refuge, and a remarkable community. Month after month, I sent out lessons—some rooted in Zentangle, others expanding into abstract explorations and layered watercolours. Each one came with an invitation: to slow down, to observe closely, to let the pen lead.

And they did.

Members from across the world—would show up, often quietly at first. But over time, something shifted. In our *monthly Zoom sessions* (which we lovingly called Tangle Talks), stories were shared, laughter bubbled up, and cameras slowly began to turn on. What started as individual practices evolved into a *circle of camaraderie and care*.

The private facebook group buzzed with quiet encouragement. Pages filled with evolving tangles, experiments gone wonderfully right or beautifully wrong. There was no pressure. Just the joy of showing up, of trying, of being seen.

Many members spoke of how Serene helped them through difficult seasons. That these gentle lessons became anchors—moments of calm in chaotic times. Others discovered new layers of their artistic voice, tried materials they’d never thought to explore, or found a new love for their own lines.

For me, Serene became a deeply personal practice in teaching, in listening, and in learning to trust the slow unfolding of creativity. I poured a lot into it—and what I received back was tenfold. The energy, curiosity, and kindness of the members reminded me again and again why art matters—not just in galleries, but in the quiet corners of everyday life.

Now, after four rich years, Serene has come to a natural close.

It’s time for a pause. For reflection. For new beginnings.

I’m stepping into a new phase of my creative life—one where I hope to explore new mediums, reimagine how I teach, and shape new projects that are waiting to be born. I’ll still be offering monthly workshops (some adapted from Serene, others completely new), and there may well be a new version of Serene down the line. But for now, this chapter gently closes.

To all those who were part of it—thank you. And to those who are reading this now, I hope this glimpse into the Serene journey reminds you of the quiet power of consistency, community, and creativity.

Last week, we gatherd one last time for our *final Zoom session—a Wrap-Up Party*, full of stories, smiles, and gratitude. We created the above tile as we shared our experiences.
