From Class to Calm

From Class to Calm

Last weekend’s Fundamentals of Zentangle class left my studio glowing with creative energy. I had the joy of teaching three wonderful ladies—each one curious, open, and ready to dive into the quiet magic of lines and patterns. By the end of the session, they were utterly hooked 😉. It always makes me smile… converting one creative soul at a time into the world of mindful drawing.

During the class, I began a tile along with them—a soft, simple start that I didn’t get to finish amidst all the teaching, guiding, and delighting in their discoveries. This week, I returned to that unfinished piece and let it unfold slowly, just the way Zentangle intends.

I added Waybop, Shattuck, Flux, Pokeleaf, Rick’s Paradox, and Lonoda, letting each tangle settle into place, responding to the one before it. There’s something deeply satisfying about revisiting a tile that began in the middle of shared laughter and concentrated silence. It almost feels like continuing a conversation—one that began in community and ended in calm solitude.

I’m sharing a few pictures from the class here, because moments like these deserve to be held and remembered. Watching beginners experience their first “aha!” with a tangle, or the joy of their first finished tile, is truly one of my favourite parts of being a Certified Zentangle Teacher.

If you’re in Chennai, I would love to have you join me at the studio. Come experience a few hours of mindful creativity, gentle focus, and a whole lot of Zen time. Your own beautiful tile is waiting to be discovered.
