I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Tangle Retreat 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, beautifully organized by CZT Sharon Wong and CZT Shie Naritomi. The retreat was a thoughtfully curated three-day celebration of tangling, creativity, and community, bringing together participants from across Asia—China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and India.
Day One unfolded after lunch, the room buzzed with energy—pens ready, tiles waiting, and hearts brimming with anticipation.
I was truly spellbound by the artwork shared in the form of homework—each piece a window into someone’s heart and practice. Alongside this gallery of creativity, the joy of reconnecting with old friends added a familiar warmth, weaving the threads of past memories into the fabric of the present retreat.
I found my place at Table Mooka, and what a lively, spirited group of tanglers we were! Together, we played, laughed, and teamed up for the fun games—a perfect icebreaker that dissolved hesitations and wove us instantly into a circle of joy.
There were moments of deep silence as we tangled, pens gliding in quiet rhythm—followed by bursts of laughter and joy that filled the room like sunshine breaking through clouds.
Zentangle collages never fail to bring a smile—watching everyone’s creations unfold from the same set of instructions is like witnessing a chorus of creativity.
Each tile, though guided by the same steps, carries its own whispers of personality, tiny twists, and subtle flourishes that make it beautifully and unmistakably unique.”
I never realized how quickly the three days vanished in the blink of an eye, each hour brimming with creativity, laughter, and shared moments that linger in memory.
Posing with my projects, I felt a deep sense of gratitude—for the time, the opportunity, and the shared moments that made this retreat truly special.
Forming new friendships and meeting virtual friends in person—it was pure magic.
Here is a testament to the way creativity can weave people together, no matter the miles between us.
As the retreat came to an end, I felt grateful for the time, the opportunity, and the connections made. Making new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and sharing moments of creativity was simply amazing. Our group picture captured the laughter, projects, and joy—a small memory to hold onto long after the three wonderful days had flown by.
