Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it feels especially meaningful to pause and reflect on the quiet ways creativity supports our emotional well-being. Art has always been more than a finished piece or a beautiful pattern for me—it is a gentle companion, a moment of stillness, and often, a pathway back to myself. This round tan tile was created in that spirit, alongside the warmth and inspiration of the Zentangle® community. Using simple tangles like Marasu, Flux, Crescent Moon, Poke Root, Tipple, Knightsbridge, and Printemps, I allowed the tile to unfold slowly, one stroke at a time. There was no rush, no pressure for perfection—just the calming rhythm of pen on paper and the comfort of mindful repetition. Creativity also offers a quiet emotional release. It helps soften mental clutter, encourages mindfulness, and provides moments of stillness in an otherwise busy world. Sometimes, the simple act of drawing repetitive patterns can feel meditative—bringing balance, focus, and comfort without the need for words. This Mental Health Awareness Month, I am reminded that caring for the mind can take many forms. Sometimes it may be rest, conversation, or reflection. And sometimes, it may simply be sitting down with a pen and allowing creativity to gently guide us back to ourselves.
