When a Tile Creates Itself

When a Tile Creates Itself

Some tiles have a mind of their own—and this one was exactly that. I began without any plan or fixed idea in mind, simply testing out a few new papers. The pen touched the surface, and before I knew it, the lines kept flowing, guiding me along. It felt as though the tile was creating itself, reminding me how freeing it is to let go of control and trust the process.

I was delighted to see how beautifully this paper handled shading—it gave depth and softness that brought the patterns alive. That alone makes me want to give this paper a thumbs up!

For tangles, I revisited Phicops after a long break and paired it with Crescent Moon and Poke Leaf to add intricacy. To accompany them, I wove in Huggins, Sandswirl, Flux, Scena, and Koyoto. Together, they created a rich, organic composition that felt both spontaneous and complete.
