The Possibility of Flight

The Possibility of Flight

I am back, continuing my PP28 journey, and today’s tile marks Day 07. This project is once again inspired by the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, and his remarkable explorations of flight — especially his imaginative designs of machines that could lift off the ground.

For this tile, its the idea of a spinning spiral blade — the kind Da Vinci envisioned as a mechanism that, when rotating at just the right speed, could rise into the air. II have worked on the top view of that motion, translating it into patterns that suggest rotation, energy, and lift.

To decorate the top of the blade, I incorporated the tangle Well as a fragment, allowing it to flow into the structure while adding rhythm and detail. The interplay between structure and ornamentation feels both grounding and dynamic.

Working on a tan tile, I used a sanguine pencil to bring in a soft Renaissance effect — warm, earthy, and reminiscent of old studies and sketches. The tones added a sense of history and depth, almost like echoing pages from Da Vinci’s notebooks.

As the tile came together, it became more than just a study of motion. It felt like an exploration of possibility — of ideas taking shape, of imagination turning into form.

A quiet reminder that every flight begins first as a thought.
